Blog Post Week 3

 1. In lab we learned about the different stages of development for living organisms. One example is the development of a butterfly. It starts off as an egg. The second stage is a caterpillar. The third stage is a chrysalis, and the last stage is a butterfly.

2. I can apply what I've learned to my teaching because I learned how to help students visually learn the concept of development. Using play-dough activates their sensory motor too.

3. One question I have is how can I assess that students are learning the material? Can I still fulfill the standards doing a lab rather than an exam?

  1. I have also wondered if as teachers, how can we truly assess if our students have met the standards if we are using nontraditional evaluation methods such as labs or presentations. I think this means we will have to find alternative options for assessing progress that do not revolve around standardized tests.

  2. Hi Sid! Your question is so interesting! I totally agree, what other ways can we assess without it being a standardized test? Can it be done in lab and still meet our testing guidelines? If so how can we make sure its a valid way of assessment?
